Dr. Mohd Khairy Kamarudin is a Senior Lecturer at the Academy of Islamic Civilization, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UTM. Specializing in fara’id, inter vivos, and Islamic Finance, Khairy is a Ph.D. holder in the field of Islamic Inheritance, obtained from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He is also a practitioner of qualitative research (thematic analysis) and quantitative research (econometric and SEM-PLS), both of which are important to his fields of expertise. Khairy’s journey to academia was not a straightforward one, but it was an area that he knew he wanted to be part of when he embarked on his studies.
Khairy obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Muamalat Administration from Universiti Utara Malaysia and proceeded to earn his Master’s degree in Islamic Economics at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Being a perfectionist, Khairy takes pride in the fact that he was awarded the Best Postgraduate Student Award from UTM, and both the Vice-Chancellor Gold Medal and the Bank Rakyat Gold Medal in Universiti Utara Malaysia.
His previous employment before entering academia founded and solidified the foundations of his research interests, where he previously held the position of Assistant Manager at Bank Islam Berhad, and also at Wasiyyah Shoppe Berhad, a business that deals in Trust Management, Hibah Preparation and Execution, and Al-Wasitah.
Nevertheless, Islamic finance and inheritance are not Khairy’s only passions. He is also a budding artist and loves artistic activities such as Malay traditional poetry and music. In fact, Khairy has won numerous poetry and writing competitions organized by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC).
