KUALA LUMPUR – As part of its ongoing efforts to encourage underprivileged students to further their studies, Affin Islamic Bank Berhad (AFFIN ISLAMIC) recently contributed RM150,000 from its Zakat allocation to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur (UTMKL) fund.
AFFIN ISLAMIC Chief Executive Officer, En Kamarul Ariffin Mohd Jamil says that the Bank takes pride in taking charge of their Zakat distributions. “We believe that hardworking students who come from underprivileged families should receive equal access to education as much as everybody else. As of December last year, about RM 2.2 million from our Zakat fund has been distributed for this cause alone,” said Kamarul.
“Being an Islamic Bank in Malaysia, one of our main duties is to give back to the Muslim community. Thus, we are proud to collaborate with UTMKL this year, as they are an institution that plays a great role in progressing and developing young Muslim students, without compromising the teachings of Islam. We hope that our contribution will help ease the financial burden for these deserving students, and encourage them in their quest to pursue a brighter future.” he further added.
This year, AFFIN ISLAMIC will be contributing about RM6 million from its wealth to deserving recipients, where a major portion will be allocated to poor and needy Muslims. UTMKL is one of the 13 universities to receive financial contribution from AFFIN ISLAMIC.
