UTM LANGUAGE ACADEMY CREATIVE WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHERS
PART 1 (2 HOURS) – SPEAKING ACTIVITIES: OF COORDINATION AND PRACTICE (10.30AM)

Speaking skill is often regarded by second language learners as a challenging skill to acquire. In schools, teachers shy away from speaking activities as these require time and good planning on the teacher’s part. Speaking skills though important have not always been given due attention. This workshop will challenge this perception Participants will be given hands-on experience in handling and coordinating speaking activities through participating in a series of activities followed by a rationalisation session to raise their awareness.
PART 2 (2 HOURS) – APPLYING DRAMA TECHNIQUES IN TESL (2.00PM)
Presented by Dr. Abdullah Mohd. Nawi
In this workshop, participants will learn to use accelerated learning drama techniques that can be applied in their everyday ESL classes – techniques such as Freeze Frames, Thought Tracking, Conscience Alley and Hot Seating that will engage students in multimodality learning. These techniques can be applied as standalone activities or as part of an integrated ESL process drama lesson making classes fun, enjoyable and memorable.
UTM LANGUAGE ACADEMY CREATIVE WORKSHOPS FOR TEENAGE STUDENTS (13-17 YEARS OLD)
PART 1 (2 HOURS) – FUN WITH LYRICS (10.30AM)

Songs are a great way to integrate vocabulary, grammar and listening skills. Learning through songs creates a relaxing and enjoyable group learning session for students of the English language. Students will develop their creativity in composing their own songs with appropriate use of vocabulary, grammar and language skills.
PART 2 (2 HOURS) – DRAMA WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG PEOPLE (2.00PM)
Presented by Norhanim Abdul Samad
Participants will explore and develop an understanding of English through drama in a fun and enthusiastic learning environment where their ideas are valued and encouraged. This programme aims to develop collaboration in a group setting through creativity, confidence building and problem solving. Participants will explore characterisations, creative movement, improvisation and communication skills. This will also provide the participants with personal and social skills required to communicate in English confidently.
PART 3 (2 HOURS) – POETRY WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG PEOPLE (4.30PM)

Poetry writing is a great exercise for English language learners to experiment with the language and vocabulary. It gives them freedom to freely share their ideas without the confinements of perfect grammar or structures. Participants will be given the opportunity to write poetry in the following forms – Shape Poem, Haiku, Cinquain and Diamante.
