Bunkyo University was established in 1976 upon the renaming of the Rissho Women’s University. Bunkyo University is made up of two campuses , Koshigaya Campus, which is located on a riverside of beautiful cherry trees, and the Shonan Campus, which consists of elegant brick buildings. Bunkyo university is an education university producing teachers for the Japanese schools. At present Bunkyo University has a collaboration on International Understanding Teaching Internship, with the Charles County Board of Education, Maryland State, U.S. They have been sending students since the year 1990 for a 2-weeks teaching internship program at primary and secondary schools there. The aim of the program is to create the chance for Bunkyo students to understand Japan better and to gain knowledge about American education system, their culture and values. Students conduct lessons in English on Japanese Culture. This provides a golden opportunity for students to use the English language.

Bunkyo is considering the prospect of establishing similar program with the state of Johor, through University Technology Malaysia especially Language Academy (LA). Malaysia provides a wider scope of language and cultural elements which will greatly benefit Bunkyo students, the future teachers of Japan and in return it will also benefit Malaysian students to understand Japan. This year will be the second year Bunkyo is trying the program with LA and 7 students will be here with 2 professors from the 17th of March to 24th of March. Besides conducting lessons at LA Japanese language classes they will also be visiting SM Sultan Ibrahim and SRK Bandar Baru Uda(2).
