The Language Teachers of Language Academy Faculty of UTM, Johor are helping to ease the economic strain on the community by organizing a FreeMarket event on 28 January 2017. Headed by Nur ‘Ain binti Mohd Shahroom and with cooperation with Kampung Pasir JKKK Chairman, Tn. Haji Abas bin Said, the FreeMarket will be held at Kampung Pasir Community Centre (Jln. Manggis) and will include communities from 6 nearby villages which are Kg Pasir, Kg Pengkalan Rinting, Kg Sri Jaya, Kg. Sri Jaya Baru, Kg Sri Serdang and Kg Sri Serdang Baru.

The concept, made famous by a Kuala Lumpur based activist group, FREEMARKET is a platform to give back to the community by providing them with goods such as groceries, books, clothes and toiletries in a market like setting. It is created to build ties among Language Academy and the many social classes in the community. The only rules are to ask politely, smile, say thank you and think of others. Items both preloved and new are welcomed as contributions. Participants will exchange items for a smile and polite query. Additionally it helps to create a culture of sustainability where consumers can recycle their preloved items instead of disposing or worst, hoarding them.
