Admission Procedures
Pre-requisites before any Application
TAKE NOTE: All those interested to apply to CASIS will need to be interviewed by the Director and all the academic staffs before you are qualified to proceed with your online UTM application. Please allow at least 4-5 months before the start of semester (our semester begins twice a year, February and September) for the admission process.
- Email your Resume/CV and your Statement of Intentions to continue your study at CASIS to casis@utm.my.
- Write a 2 or 3 page of Research Proposal that includes the:
- Proposed Title
- Problem Statement
- Objectives of Study
- Significance of study and
- Literature Survey of related works.
- If all of the above are satisfactory, we will call you for an interview with the Director and all the academic staffs.
- The outcome of the interview will determine if you are qualified to proceed with your online UTM application.
- Refer to www.sps.utm.my for live update on this semester’s intake and check application deadline.
- Read the “Registration Kit for Postgraduate Student” in the SPS site.
- Our MA program code is MLPGA3AKA and PhD program code is PLPGA3AKA under the School of Graduate Studies (SPS)*
*CASIS was a faculty under Faculty of Islamic Civilization (FTI) in 2011-mid 2014. But in JUNE 2014, we have undergone change in management and are now situated under SPS (School of Graduate Studies). The lecturers teaching in CASIS are not the same as the ones in FTI. We are based in Kuala Lumpur and FTI in Johor Bharu.

- Fill up the form online* and attach the softcopy of related supporting documents.

- You can still login and edit your documents with your own account.
- After submitting the online application, an Offer Letter will be sent to your respective email
- Application Results: Minimum 1 month and maximum 3 month after submission.
Manual Application
- Fill up the form online* and print it.
- Attach completed form with the copies of related supporting documents. (Please refer to Supporting Documents below)
- Submit the completed documents via post or by hand at:
- Please ensure that you provide a valid email and home address
- Application Results: Minimum 1 month and maximum 3 month after submission.
After Receiving the Offer Letter
- Email your acceptance letter to casis@ic.utm.my.
- Refer to www.sps.utm.my for dates of Postgraduate Registration Day in Kuala Lumpur.
- Attend the Registration Day bringing all the supporting documents (originals and copy)
- Registration Day is a compacted day to complete all the requirements for a Postgraduate student after being accepted in the program. Completion of your Medical Checkup, Payment of Tuition Fees, Receiving your Student ID and Registration of UTM Dormitory (if needed)
- Attend CASIS Induction Week. Dates will be informed to you via email.
Supporting Documents
The documents required are listed below:
- Certified copy of Bachelor Degree
- Certified copy of Diploma (If Any)
- Certified copy of Academic Transcript(s)
- Passport Sized Photograph
- Copy of Passport (for international applicants)
- Two Referee Forms
- Financial Guarantee/ Bank Account Statement (for self sponsored candidate)
- Two copies of Scholarship Letter (If Any)
- Proof of processing fee being paid
General Information
- Incomplete application form or/and if the application is not accompanied by certified true copies of the candidate’s Degree/Diplomas/Certificates and transcripts shall be considered null and void.
- The result of your application will be sent to you by email and by post.
- If you are an employee, it is your responsibility to obtain a release from your current employment or a permission to register as a postgraduate student at UTM.
- Late applications (after due date) will be processed for intake in the following semester while incomplete applications will be processed only after completed documents are received by the University before the due date of the said semester.
- The decision by the Selection Committee is final.
Admission Requirements
M.A. in Philosophy
A bachelor’s degree from UTM or other recognized universities or equivalent academic qualifications from overseas in any field of study of at least 3.00 CGPA. Certain professional qualifications will also be considered.
- An English Certificate of IELTS/TOEFL with band score of 6.0/550.
Ph.D. in Philosophy
A Master’s degree from UTM or other recognized universities or equivalent academic qualifications from overseas. Certain professional qualifications will also be considered.
- An English Certificate of IELTS/TOEFL with band score of 6.0/550.
Certain candidates are required to enrol in the following prerequisite courses to obtain a passing grade in :
- Introduction to Islamic Studies 1 [‘Aqidah]
- Introduction to Islamic Studies2 [Shari’ah]
- Arabic 1
- Arabic 2
- Arabic 3
