Professor Wakabayashi obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. His academic interest lies in applied linguistics, particularly in modelling second language learners’ mental representations of morphology and syntax in the flamework of generative grammar and psycholinguistics. He was a foundation member of the Japan Second Language Association (J-SLA), and is currently Secretary of this association. He also serves as a member of the editorial board of Linguistic Approaches to Bilingualism among other journals. He was a Vice President of Chuo University, Tokyo, from 2011 to 2014, in charge of the globalization of the university, and was a Councilor of the university for four years.
