A Warm Welcome to Language Academy.
Language Academy (LA) was established in 2010 and it is part of Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH). At LA, we offer various language proficiency courses to undergraduate students, for example, English, Malay, Mandarin, Japanese, Arabic, French and Korean.
If you are interested to pursue your postgraduate studies with us, we offer three programmes which are Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), Master of Philosophy (MPhil), and Master of Language in Communication and Digital Culture (MLCDC). Ph.D and MPhil are full research programmes, whilst MLCDC is a Master taught course.
Our staff are actively involved in various language research areas and publications. We have three research strands which are Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching (ALLT), Language and Communication in Society (LCS), and Technology and Language Education (TLE). Our areas of specialisation include CALL, Linguistics, LSP, Health Communication, Teacher Training, TESL and Visual Communication.
Besides academic programmes, we also offer a variety of language classes and services. Our popular language camps are Summer School (Oral Communication for Future Professionals), Summer School (TESL), and Language and Cultural Camp (KEBAYA). MyLinE is an online self-access English language learning platform specially designed to assist students to develop their English language communication skills. Those intend to sit for IELTS or CEFR examination can enroll in the Intensive English Programme (IEP), which is a preparatory course for IELTS or CEFR. Besides English language, we also offer foreign language classes for UTM staff and the public. Language Academy is a well-known centre for various international language tests such as JLPT, IELTS, and CEFR.
