PhD in Chemistry Education

Winnie had previously completed a Bachelor and a Master’s of Education in Chemistry Education. For her PhD, Winnie focused on secondary education, and specifically inquiry teaching and learning. She researched the ‘students interaction in inquiry environment’ and explored how schools can better prepare their life after study.

Chemistry Education at UTM is extremely enjoyable and challenging for me.  I’ve started PhD and I am thrilled to have the chance to learn and improve my skills in UTM’s well-equipped labs.  I’ve learnt a great deal from the very friendly and helpful lecturers here.  I’ve also benefited from the facilities and services thet UTM provides, such as the accommodation services, student learning support and student health.  Besides receiving quality education, I also get to experience a new lifestyle and culture, make new friends and enrich my working experience.  In a nutshell, UTM is an ideal place for me to learn and enjoy as well as to challenge myself to greater heights and achievements.

Studying towards a PhD in Chemistry Education

I chose UTM because of my supervisory team.  The quality of their research is outstanding. I also think they are used to receiving foreign students – they knew how to support me on this experience far away from home, and of course, in a non-native language.

I like how multicultural the University is. It’s very interesting and enriching to meet people from all over the globe with different perspectives and understandings of chemistry education and life.

I really like it here. I enjoy outdoor activities very much, and UTM is an excellent place for that. I also like reading novels, going to the beach and having dinner with friends. Of course I miss things from home, but the environment here at uni, is quite comfortable. People are usually very helpful and friendly, which makes it easy to settle in.
