“ONE BELT ONE ROAD” INTERNATIONAL FORUM FOR UNIVERSITY PRESIDENTS

Visit to Guilin University of Technology

The “One Belt One Road” Forum for University Presidents was held on 11-12 November 2015 at the Guilin University of Technology (GUT), China. The forum was attended by eleven universities representing the ASEAN and Central Asia regions. Among the participating countries include Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Thailand and Malaysia.

UTM was represented by Prof. Dr. Nordin Yahaya, Senior Director of UTM International and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Raof, Dean of Language Academy.

Apart from presentations by university presidents (or representatives), delegates visited GUT new campus, participated in networking sessions, and attended cultural programmes.

The forum has opened up new avenues for collaboration not just with the host university but also among participating universities.

With GUT the areas of specialisation identified for collaboration are Tourism Management, Environmental Science and English Language Communication. This will take the form of joint-research projects, training for English language teachers, summer school and short courses for students and staff.

While among the other universities, UTM plans to embark on a number of activities involving postgraduate programmes, staff attachment and student exchange.
