Doctor of Philosophy in the Teaching of English as a Second Language (PhD in TESL) is designed for those who wish to become specialised scholars in the field of TESL. The programme is suitable for educators who teach English subject for speakers of English as a second language. Acquiring one of the most respected credentials in education, the programme is designed to enhance specialised knowledge through academic study and research. Research-based methods are used to solve problems and identify gaps in the field. As this is a full research programme, students are to research areas of education in which they are particularly passionate in and receive supervision from their research supervisors. PhD in TESL will give students credibility, upward mobility and the technical expertise needed in the competitive job market.
Programme duration
Students can complete their study in a minimum of six (6) semesters to 16 semesters. The Doctor of Philosophy (TESL) is awarded after the successful completion of 93 credits of thesis, three (3) credits of a compulsory university course and three (3) compulsory School of Education course.
